We have 2 walnut trees in our yard, and have been collecting and drying the walnuts on our deck. Well ... the squirrels have found us out! One intrepid youngster in particular has been absconding with our nuts. To be honest, I don't begrudge him. He needs food to survive the winter. However, there are still lots of nuts on the ground - ours are just conveniently de-husked and collected already.
So little Mister has been raiding our deck, sitting on the edge and chirping until all is clear, then scampering away with walnuts under his neck or in his teeth. So then we covered everything. And he expertly pushed the lids away and continued the steady drain on our walnut supply.
This morning I heard a crashing sound, and saw him sitting there in front of an ENORMOUS walnut! It was monster-sized, twice as big as his head. The rest of the time he tries to climb the pails and sniffs his way around all corners. Where are those delicious nuts? Where are they hiding them?
