We went to see "One Week" on Sunday - we actually planned and got out of the house in time for an early show - yay! All I knew about it was road trip. I didn't realize that the trip is across Canada. It was an unexpected delight to watch a movie filmed in, and about, my own country. I really like the States, and lived there for almost 6 years (a fact which oddly seems to surprise people who know me). And I love movies that take place in cool parts of the States, like Tennessee, or the south, or even less well known locations. But for some reason, a film in Canada was comforting and invigorating in a way that other landscapes are not. It was familiar. Canada felt like a place I know - a place with 2-lane highways running across it; prairies and forests; farm scenes; the ocean; all of it. It is home, in a way I hadn't felt before.
I definitely recommend the film as a love story about Canada.
